Mon 1/24 Check out our new Eleuthera Trivia Contest.  There are some great prizes from some of the local businesses on the island.
Wed 1/19 A large number of wheel chairs were donated to Eleuthera and Harbour Island, and last week they arrived at clinics around Eleuthera.   A segment of these chairs went to the clinic in Rock Sound and Jonna Riley of Tarpum Bay made sure some got to the deserving residents of Tarpum Bay.  Thanks to Kimberly King Burns of Harbour Island who ensured delivery to the clinics and brought a contingent to assemble them!
Mon 1/10 This past Saturday Junior Junkanoo was held in Tarpum Bay.  What a great show!!!   There were junkanoo teams from Rock Sound, Green Castle, Hatchet Bay, Governor's Harbour...   Rock Sound and North Eleuthera High Schools were also represented.   Tarpum Bay won most everything in their division....
Wed 1/5 Happy New Year everyone!  Sorry to have disappeared on you, but Tarpum Bay and south lost internet service on Wednesday 12/29 and didn't get it back until today. Lots of updates....

I had a short and busy holiday on Eleuthera.  The wind blew and blew and blew and changed many plans, but still I had fun.  Our holiday party never really got going.  When I went to Club Med beach with a truck full of bon fire wood and 5 gals of gin and coconut water the wind was howling too much to make the fire and it started raining!  So I placed a sign saying to move the party to Cupid's Cay pavilion and I relocated.  After sitting and drinking with 3 others for 2 hours we decided the weather had scared everyone away and we moved to Lionel's Sunset Grill.  I met several of you there - as some folks recognized my truck and others overheard me talking about the party.  Next year we will have alternate plans posted ahead of time.

My good friend Cris, in Rainbow Bay, had her New Year's Eve Eve party on Thursday.  I got to visit with lots of good friends and eat lots of good food.

I spent New Years carrying the Tarpum Bay Junkanoo team to a private party at Windermere Club.  Butch and Eleuthera Express played Bahamian and American music to ring in the New Year.  It was a nice enough party - but I heard we missed a really good time at Tippy's... ah well, there's always next year.  Tippy's also hosted a Junkanoo rushout and Snapshot band played there.  Following are pictures of Junkanoo at Windermere.

Saturday evening the Queen's highway was closed down in Tarpum Bay, stalls were opened for food and drinks, the DJ played great dance music, and the Junkanoo teams rushed several times.

On Sunday the sun came out and it warmed up some.  We wandered up south to Miller's Beach near Bannerman Town to check out the shelling.  This is quite a good beach for shelling and probably would be a good snorkeling beach in calmer weather.  We found the graveyard by the sea with its age worn headstones.  We wandered into John Millers to do some more exploring.... I had never gone to the top of the hill there and always wondered why these people lived out here in the middle of nowhere... but the view from the top of the hill is spectacular - and there's a wonderful breeze.  There are 5 homes that are inhabited - I think a total of 19 people live in this settlement.  We then explored into Seashells at Cotton Bay.  The roads are being cut and there are signs advertising this subdivision everywhere.   This one may be a go!

Sunday evening we traveled down north to Briland to Valentine's Yacht Club to enjoy the live entertainment from the Hog Heads.  Valentine's has built a bar out over the water.  This is a lovely little spot, with drop down plastic windows to protect you from the elements.  The band sounded great and the whole bar was up and dancing.  The Hog Heads play here every Sunday evening from 7pm until 9 (or later if a good time is being had by all!).

And on Monday I headed home.  That, too, was an experience.  It seems that there were problems in Nassau which delayed my plane coming to Governor's.  My plane was over 2 hours late and they had to turn on the runway lights in GHB for the plane to land and take off.  Seeing those lights on was a first for me!
