| Mon, 4/26/04 | Tarpum Bay has a wonderful sense of family and community, and in line with this, has started an organized youth basketball league. The games, consisting of youths from 5th through 12th grade, are played on Saturday nights and start at 7pm. There are currently 4 teams that play at the basketball courts by the school. This past weekend there was a great showing of support from the community with approximately 200 spectators showing up. In addition to the games going on, there were stalls with food such as conch fritters and chicken wings. If anyone reading this has any clout in the sports industry - or artistic talent, the kids could desperately use a donated score board (preferably non-electric). Nobody could provide me a final score since there is no score board for the crowd to monitor. While the boys were playing basketball, the girls were playing volleyball at the adjacent volleyball courts (with basketballs - another donation opportunity!!!) This will continue on through August, so come check it out. What a pleasant way to spend a Saturday evening! |
| Fri., 4/23/04 | Cocodimama Resort is now one of the fun
places to go on Friday nights. Every Friday night they have music
and dancing , with a live band (two guitars, one base, one drums, two
singers). Cocodimama is located on the Sea side between Governor's
Harbour and the GHB airport. Check it out!
The new Tarpum Bay library celebrated its pre-grand opening last week. To read more about it and see the photos from the event click here to view the newsletter. The official opening was last night. The minister of social services and community development, Melanie Griffin was there as well as the Member of Parliament for Eleuthera and the Speaker of the House, Oswald Ingram. Following the national anthem, there was a welcoming blessing, singing, and prayers. They gave thanks to the community stressing the Government had nothing to do with it, this was all a community effort. More on this event coming soon.... Big thanks to Lisa Krupp from Chicago - Lisa has been working for several years to get the books donated. She has also sent computers for the school. More on her efforts coming soon.... Pictures from Thursday night's opening of the Tarpum Bay Library. Don't forget Savannah Sound's beach party every Friday and Saturday
night. Also, Governor's Fish Fry on Friday nights - and Palmetto
Point's Saturday night beach bash. Everyone's getting ready for
their homecomings.... get out and support the settlements while getting
some great food, drinks and dancing! |
| Tues, 4/13/04 | After a beautiful weekend the Easter
holiday and homecomings have come to an end. James Cistern's
homecoming was fairly small, since they had originally cancelled it and
then, only a week ago decided to go ahead with it. A decent crowd
did show for Christian Massive, a young Christian rap artist, who played
in James Cistern Sunday night. Rock Sound's homecoming was
HUGE this year - and a good time. Friday night Eleuthera Express and
Geno D. put on a great show in Rock Sound. Geno was wandering around
talking to the spectators afterwards. Saturday night there was
a Junkanoo rush and Fast Eddie of the Junkanoo rushing group Saxons was
spotted there. There was a contest for best cowbeller, best drummer,
and best dancer - the winners get to go to Nassau to rush with the
Saxons. At Bogue's homecoming Sunday evening The Brilanders played
for several hours. The band is sounding really good these
days. Larry's sexy dance moves really get the crowd
"wining".
Although there has been an Easter Monday beach party at Gaulding Cay for many years, there wasn't one this year... and we're not sure why. I did heard rumors that maybe the organizers were hung over after a BIG party Sunday night in Current. Or, maybe they combined with Lower Bogue's Easter Monday beach party? For you Brilanders fans - according to Larry Cleare, next Sunday The Brilanders will be playing at Bottom Harbour Lounge in Whale Point. |
