Wed 12/21/2005 Happy first day of Winter and Winter Solstice.  From today until June 21 each day's daylight hours get longer - meaning more daytime to enjoy the beaches!

There's a new listing on the real estate for sale page - Green Lizard.  This is a lovely piece of property with a home, vehicle, and boat included in the sale.  Check it out.  I've also heard that there's going to be a beach party Tuesday December 27 from noon until 8pm.  I believe it's at Gaulding Cay.  I've heard there's to be a live band.  Anyone else have any info on this?  I'd love to hear the details.  I will be there!

I have a new link from the index that goes to my Building Journal.  For my sanity, and to show others what they might expect when building a house on an island in the Bahamas, I am keeping a journal of what I have had to do during my land purchasing and home building process.  Maybe you'll get some good info out of this, maybe you'll get a laugh, or maybe you don't care!

Sun 12/18/2005 Last night was junior junkanoo in Tarpum Bay.  And, once again, Tarbum Bay won junior junkanoo!  Schools were represented from Briland, Gregory Town, Hatchet Bay, James Cistern, Governor's Harbour, Palmetto Point, Rock Sound, and Tarpum Bay.   A huge number of people from all the settlements came to cheer their local schools.  Scheduled to start around 4pm, it started at the typical Bahamian time of 6pm and ended around 9pm. Tarpum Bay had the largest group of rushers and they made the most noise.
Wed 12/14/2005 Sorry I've been out of touch for so long... went island hopping in the Eastern Caribbean (St. Martin, St. Thomas) - and let me tell you - I still love Eleuthera!

Junior Junkanoo is Saturday evening in Tarpum Bay.  All the participating settlements will be coming to Tarpum Bay to compete.  The competition is held at last year's winner's home settlement and Tarpum Bay won last year.  This will probably be held from around 3pm to 7pm since this is a school children's event.  The adults are also getting ready for junkanoo.  Junkanoo is on for Christmas and New Years in Tarpum Bay and for Boxing Day in Briland.  Come check out these events.

Speaking of Harbour Island, the Briland Artswalk is being held Christmas Eve.  Stop by to get your last minute Christmas shopping done.  From 10:00a-5:00p on Saturday, 24 December 2005, you can browse water colours from several artists including Kevin Cooper and Iris Lewis, collectible island woodworking crafts by Obie Goodman, Dorothy Rahming and George Bullard, and, for the first time, original Haitian oils.  You can check out the 'Taste of Briland' cafe hosted by Miz Pearl Lewis, listen to the vocal styling of Miss Ithalia Johnson ... and otherwise make a day of it downsea, on Bay Street in front of The Landing

Grouper season is now closed - no more fresh grouper at the docks - this allows for the groupers to spawn.  However, there's plenty of grouper in the fishermen's freezer - just ask for it at the docks.

Cape Eleuthera and Seashells are still building.  Lots of block trucks are heading south.  Rock Sound Club is temporarily on hold until after the new year while some t'ings are sorted out.

As for entertainment, Forget Me Not in Hatchet Bay still does live music on Sunday nights - and Seaside in Hatchet Bay has a DJ on Saturday nights.

Sun 12/1/2005

I've been seeing lots of questions on which restaurants/bars are open and serving on which days over the holidays.  So, I did my research.  If I missed any place you'd like to know about, please email me and I'll find out!  Here's a list of places where you can dine, or just stop by and have a few drinks and celebrate.  Keep checking this list as I will add more as I find out more!

Unique Bar & Grill, Palmetto Point - 332-1830 - Open Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve
Live music both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve featuring the Rum Runners - a great rake 'n scrape band out of South Eleuthera who will get you up off your feet and dancing!  The band plays 7pm-10pm on Christmas Even and from 7pm thru midnight on New Year's Eve.  Dinner these nights is a buffet of Bahamian and American favorites.  New Year's night diners get a complimentary glass of champagne to ring in the New Year.

Dolcevita Restaurant, Palmetto Point - 332-0220

Mate & Jenny's, Palmetto Point - 332-1504 - Open Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve
Full menu is available. Try their conch pizza for a twist on an old favorite.

Windchimes Bar, Palmetto Point - 332-1286 - Open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve
This unassuming little bar along Queens Highway is a delightful surprise for a place to eat - I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.  Their menu is full of fabulous Bahamian fare such as cracked conch, grouper fingers, cracked turtle, lobster salad, chicken wings, chicken legs, and soups and souses.  Windchimes is located right on Queen's Highway just south of the gas station.

Tippy's, Governor's Harbour - 332-3331 - Open Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve
Snapshot Band will be entertaining the crowd starting at 10pm on New Year's Eve and there will be Junkanoo and fireworks at midnight.  Reservations are recommended.

Joe's Restaurant, Governor's Harbour - 332-2955 - Open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
The entertainment for New Years Eve is still up in the air, but Paul assures me that there will be either live entertainment or a DJ.

Lionel's Sunset Grill, Governor's Harbour - 332-2487 - Open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve
Lionel says he's hosting his yearly New Years party with fireworks and champagne.  There will also be live entertainment with a one man band.

Kel-dy's, James Cistern
Always a fun time on New Year's Eve.

Rainbow Inn, Rainbow Bay - 335-0294 - Open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve
Christmas eve will be the Inn's regular menu but New Year's Eve will have a special menu for a special occassion.  James Sweeting, the "One Man Band" will entertain guest from 8:30 through the New Year.  Come for dinner or just stop by for a drink on your way passing through.
